Youth at the Forge
NorthStar Forge invites children and adults to feed their curiosity of the forge as they experience this ancient trade together through either a private class or a tour and demonstration.
Learn the workings of a blacksmith/bladesmith shop with NorthStar Forge owner and ABS Journeyman Smith Jason Kraus. Take a guided tour of the shop and hear how he became a full-time bladesmith along with fond memories competing on History Channel’s Forged in Fire.
Learn the equipment and tools used in blacksmithing and knifemaking and see raw steel being forged into a wall hook, or you can experience it for yourself in the private class option.
Private Youth/Family Class
Students will learn safety protocols, proper stance and other forging techniques with personalized, one-on-one instruction while forging a wall hook. Children must be 10-13 years old to participate (limit 2 youth per family). Adults have the option to either assist in forging with the youth participant/s or forge their own for an additional $35. Limit two youth and two adults per class. For ages 14+ please see our Intro to Blacksmithing.

Family Tour and Demonstration
Bring your family or small youth group to see the workings of the forge. Includes shop tour, discussion and forging demonstration. Each youth goes home with a complimentary forged wall hook as seen in the demo.
Children participants must be 6 years or older and always accompanied by an adult.
Demo and group tour: 90 minutes
Cost per group: $150 (includes up to three participants)
Per additional: $20 (max six participants)
