NorthStar Forge recently participated in the Edina Art Fair alongside five other Minnesota knifemakers.

The invitation was extended by Joseph Rueter, a past student of NorthStar Forge who happens to be the owner of an impressive knife shop, Vivront, located on 50th & France in Edina. The shop is located along the route of the art fair which attracts an estimated 150,000 attendees each year.

During the art fair, Rueter’s goal was to attract some of the art enthusiasts off the streets and inside the shop to learn about the products and services Vivront offers, which include kitchen knives, knife sharpening and classes on knife skills. To do that, he decided to feature six Minnesota knifemakers, each of whom brought their own works of art for the three-day fair May 31-June 2.

And it worked!

Alongside Jason Kraus of NorthStar Forge were Stefan Hall of HallMade Knives, Jake Krzenski of Gunny Forged, Richard Patterson of Patterson Blades, Chris Thorson of Thorson Knife Works, and Zack Butters of Uinta Knife Company.

Each had a table in the center of the shop displaying their finest works.

As an added attention grabber, the guys set up a forge on the sidewalk under a tent, where they took turns forging and hammering, while inquisitive fair-goers stopped to observe and ask questions about the craft.

“I had such a great time at the Edina Art Fair and I’m so thankful for Joseph for hosting us,” Jason said. “It was great to hang out with some of my favorite knifemakers and to experience such an awesome show.”

“If you haven’t checked out Vivront, you definitely should stop in,” he said. “All of us learned a lot just from being able to hold the various knives they have available there. They have makers from all over the world, but mostly Japan, and the edge geometry is something else.”
