Jake picjake forge scaled e1703713014919Good news . . . NorthStar Forge is growing! To keep up with demand, we’ve invited Jake Krzenski to help out, leading a few classes of his own. Jake has been great helping out with group classes, so we’re excited for him to be even more involved at the forge! Initially, Jake will be leading a few Intro to Blacksmithing and Railroad Spike Knife classes on select Saturdays. We also hope a leather sheath-making class is in his future! Who’s in for that?!

More about Jake

Jake grew up in Cloquet, MN, and joined the US Marine Corps in 2001. He moved to Australia in 2006 where he served in the Australian Army. He recently retired and moved back home to Minnesota. His knifemaking began about 5 years ago after becoming interested in the hobby while recovering from surgery and watching TV shows like the History Channel’s Forged in Fire. Nurturing his competitive side, Jake was determined to create even better knives than what he was seeing. Slowly, he purchased some of his own tools and materials and it snowballed from there.

Jake watched NorthStar Forge Founder Jason Kraus compete on Forged in Fire (season 3, episode 15) and then again on Master of Arms, and started following his work knowing he was also from Minnesota. When Jake came back to Minnesota, he reached out to Jason to catch up and talk knives. He also brought with him 20 pounds of Australian timbers for Jason as well. Thanks, Jake!

Since then, Jake has been assisting with a few group classes and continues to make some pretty handsome knives (see below). We encourage you to check out his work in our online shop and/or schedule a class.

Welcome, Jake!
